judge me by (some of) the
companies I keep

A personal note from Stef

Hi,

Here, I'll share the underlying philosophy behind the content on my website – so that you are clear on what to expect.

If you've already visited a few websites in your search for a speaker, workshop presenter, facilitator or organisational transformation process leader, then you'd already have found that there are droves of practitioners who pitch themselves as 'The Best This...' or 'The Best That...'. Other favourite descriptors are 'sought after', or 'in demand'... and you will come across a fare share of 'acclaimed international speakers'.

Here's the truth: after 20 years of making 100% of my living from speaking, training, facilitating and consulting, and having played pretty much at the top of the game for most of this time, it's safe to say that I know this industry better than most. What stands out for me is the fact that most (yes, most) speakers, trainers and transformation practitioners overstate their competence and track record.

I abhor this practice (yes, I know that 'abhor' is a strong word... but I do).

So I take great pains to ensure that my marketing material is a true reflection of my education, background, track record, competence and abilities.

And my 'what you see is what you get' promise ensures that I'll present you only with facts. I promise to avoid the use of superfluous adjectives. I promise to be honest. I won't over-state my competencies. No sales-pitch. No hype. I will say it as it is, without stretching the truth, and I will not use crafty copywriting to crank up my credibility.

If it's on my website, it's true. If I lay claim to anything, it's bullet-proof. And if I make a commitment, you can put it in the bank.

But first, let's back up a tad. I claimed that 'I play at the top of my game'. Is this just another exaggerated claim, or is there some truth to it? You be the judge...

First off, I consistently qualify for membership to the USA-based 'Million Dollar Speakers Round Table' (a forum for those who generate fees in the very top bracket). It's a really small group, and I am one of very few non-Americans who qualify. Besides which I'm the only South African ever to meet the criteria (actually, no one else across the entire African continent has ever qualified).

I've also earned every possible accreditation, and won every conceivable award on offer to a South African based speaker – too many to list here, but check out the 'Awards and Accolades section'. Actually, it's not true to say that I've received every award on offer by the PSASA. There is in fact one that's not on my shelf. It's their most prized award. But they went and named it the Stef du Plessis Award... which sort of disqualifies me as a recipient.

No, I'm not showboating. I'm making a point. Namely that I really do play at the very top of this industry. And have been doing so for a long time.

However, I'm not the World's #1 Speaker. After all, there can be only one of those. And it aint me. Neither is it any of the others who claim to be.

But I am a captivating presenter and I have good content. So say the tens-of-thousands of delegates who have attended any of my keynote presentations at any one of the hundreds of conferences I have spoken at around the world. In fact, I have delivered more presentations than most speakers alive, and I'm often rated the top speaker at events.

My stuff works. So say thousands of people who have attended any of the in-house workshops that I have conducted for my very long list of clients globally over the past 20 years or so. They say that my material is practical, implementable and that it improves their results.

This is because my stuff isn't all talk. I have a Masters Degree in leadership, and the bulk of my programmes and courses were developed under the auspices of, and are endorsed by, the University of Johannesburg - one of South Africa's leading academic institutions. So my programmes are well founded in proven theory.

It's also practical, based on my personal experience as an award-winning executive-level leader who has also built more than one very successful business. This means that your people will believe what I share with them and will be willing to give it a try.

And the fact that teams and organisations have implemented my stuff ensures that it's all tried-and-tested. Over decades. Across all levels of staff. Spanning a host of industries. In many countries. So you don't become my experimental guinea pig.

Which is why my clients keep on coming back for more. Often for years on end. Sometimes for a decade or longer. And they insist that their spend on my fees renders a really good return on their investment.

I also have the respect of my peers. Probably not all of them... but a fair chunk of them. I know this, because a while back I was the recipient of a peer-voted Lifetime Achievement Award for Professional Speaking.

Am I the 'World's #1 Speaker'? No.

But I deliver good value for money... I'm solid and dependable... and results-driven.  According to my past clients, anyway... click here to see what they have to say... And here is a partial list of my clients.
