FREQUINTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT, EXACTLY, IS A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER?Some think that it’s just someone with the gift of the gab. Sure, there are a few of those around, and it’s easy to tell who they are. They talk a lot but say very little. They have a broad repertoire, and poor fee integrity - so they will readily discount their fees. And then there are the professionals. They have something profound to say, and are exceptionally good at doing so. And it’s just as easy to tell who they are. Simply look at their track record: specifically, how often they get invited back by the same clients. These speakers have a very focused expertise, and solid fee integrity. The better they are at what they do, the more they cost: there are no exceptions to this rule, and no bargains to be had. They do not discount their fees to get work, simply because they don’t need to. Stef du Plessis falls into this category.
WHY DO COMPANIES EMPLOY MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS?The company is doing well, and they want to celebrate – so they host a convention, banquet or incentive trip to reward star performers. The speaker’s job is to reward attendees with profound insights, tips and tools that can help them to raise the bar... even if just by a single notch.Or the company wants to do better. So they hold an executive retreat, management meeting, sales rally or staff gathering. Perhaps even an in-house workshop or training program. And they bring in a speaker to re-focus, re-energize and up-skill their people. Or they are in trouble. Their people are tired and frazzled... they don’t live the company values, which leads to underperforming teams with low productivity. Workers don’t demonstrate accountability, are late on deadlines and they miss targets. There is finger pointing and blame allocation. Customers are unhappy. Departments wage turf wars and people resist change. Chaos, panic and lame leadership is the norm. The right speaker will rally the troops, renew hope, and inspire ownership. If the speaker really knows their craft, they will also deliver the insights, tips and tools that will enable people to bring about real, lasting and measurable change... with a strong call to action that will encourage immediate action. And those speakers at the very top of their game – like Stef - will also provide the resources with which to sustain the new momentum. Then there are restructures, mergers and acquisitions. The right speaker will help to allay fears, give guidance and share strategies that will help to make the transition more seamless. And of course the right speaker can add a great deal of value to product launches and association meetings.
WHY DO COMPANIES EMPLOY STEF DU PLESSIS?Most times Stef’s clients face similar challenges... the tough economy, measuring up against their competitors, increasingly restrictive regulation and legislation... all the usual issues. Sometimes, the effects of globalization and advances in technology may complicate their business or even be holding them back. And then there is the need to build better customer relationships, improve efficiency and productivity, and meet ever-increasing targets.Successful companies know that a part of the solution to many of these challenges – a very large part, in fact – has to do with their people. And Stef has a reputation for helping companies to overcome many of these challenges by engaging their people, growing their leaders, galvanizing their teams, and improving their culture.
HOW, EXACTLY, DOES STEF DO THIS?Any description of Stef the speaker will no doubt include the phrase ‘gifted motivational speaker’.Indeed, he is. In fact, anyone who has ever heard Stef speak will attest to the fact that he is a highly skilled and captivating presenter. Well informed. Humorous. Always appropriate. But his many clients insist that he is much, much more than just a motivational speaker. They are adamant that his content-rich presentations as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter at corporate conferences, sales meetings, management retreats and employee gatherings are best described as inspirational or transformational, and that he helps them to bring about measurable and sustainable change. That’s because he has proved over and over again during the course of the past 20 years that he is able to help his client companies to speed up their progress and to achieve their targets through engaging their people, growing their leaders, building more effective teams, and improving their culture. Stef really is one of the go-to experts when it comes to growing exceptional people. First, he radiates authenticity, which connects him with people at all levels, and across all divides. Next, he has a deep understanding of human behavior - built on a foundation of strong academic qualification – which allows him to understand and break down resistance to change. Now add the fact that he is a gifted communicator, thus able to move people to want to do more and be more.
