Effective Leader

Effective leadership is about the facilitation of change through people.

And therein lies the challenge: because personal change is the toughest thing known to mankind. Which is precisely why people resist change. And which is why most people just stay the same. Which is why very little actually does changes. And why results stay the same. Effective Leaders know this to be true.

Here’s the challenge: People will only change when they are good and ready. Not before. And the only fuel for real change is personal choice. Period.

So, what causes one to choose change? Primarily, through the influence of another human being. And therein lies the key to Effective Leadership: both at a personal and a professional level. Namely, to influence others to choose to change. Through demonstrating behaviors of excellence in their everyday life.

Of course this is not the only requirement for leadership. The Effective Leader also need to understand what it is that drives their people – so they need to grasp the basics of human behavioral and motivational psychology.

In addition, the Effective Leader also needs to escape their ‘default’ leadership style. They need to manage individuals, rather than managing their people as team members.

With a Masters degree in leadership, and a record-breaking track record as an executive-level leader himself, Stef du Plessis has also helped leaders at every level to become more effective: from entry-level supervisors on factory floors and in mines, through to mid-level managers in the white-collar world, and on to corporate captains. Past South African President Thabo Mbeki, after himself attending one of Stef’s sessions, said that his work has ‘nation-building potential’.
