Motivation and Personal EffectivenessGeoff Hilton-Barber began losing his sight in his mid-twenties due to Retinitis Pigmentosa - a retinal deteriorative disease. Since then, he has headed two welfare organisations for the blind. Geoff has thrice been a finalist in the Adventurer of the Year competition, once as runner up. He has completed two ocean crossings - one single handed from Durban, South Africa, to Freemantle, Western Australia. This makes him the only blind person ever to have completed a solo ocean crossing. He has completed two gruelling extreme desert marathons in the Sahara and Kalahari deserts (These self-sufficient six-day events cover some 240 kilometres each. Temperatures range between 35 and 50 degrees, and the runners carry all of their own supplies in back packs). He recently climbed Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro – and he will now lead annual climbs for blind people. Geoff has represented South Africa twice as a blind track athlete, and he has completed the Comrades Marathon ten times, the New York Marathon four times and the Argus cycle tour twice on a tandem with his wife, Carol. While still partially sighted, Geoff completed 430 parachute jumps – he holds the South African night altitude record. Geoff recently started practising as a consultant. He also speaks on overcoming personal barriers to success.

Dale Packham - Consultant and Executive Mentor
Crisis Management and Organisational Turn-AroundDale Packham has a remarkable track record as a crisis advisor and turn-around consultant. Among his many successful ventures, he established the Inter African Mining & Exploration Group (1994), which subsequently merged with GSE Mining Ltd. Botswana, and then gave rise to the formation of UK based mining and investment conglomerate Ergon Mining Ltd. In 1999, Dale established Cardinal Merchant Ltd. in 1999 as a vehicle to provide specialized merchant banking and turn-around advice to troubled listed institutions, and proceeded to take on several clients such as Nimbus Holdings Ltd., Propfin Ltd., Pentagon Ltd., and C-Tech Ltd. Another client, Planit Technology Holdings Limited emerged from a highly publicized hostile takeover engineered by Cardinal Merchant during March 2000. Following this, the shareholders and ABSA Bank requested that Dale assume the role of CEO for a six-month period. During this time the Group was restructured and refinanced resulting in debt reduction of some R190 million. A previous year loss of more than R180 million was turned to operational break-even. Dale’s original contract was extended to 12 months during which time he established a permanent board and handed over on 1 March 2001. Dale now heads up Mopani Capital, while he continues to serve on several boards and committees, among which are GSE Mining Botswana (Pty) Ltd and SA Carbon Holdings Limited. He also consults for RECO South Africa, and the Danish owned DANFOSS Group. An avid sports enthusiast, he has published four internationally recognized sports volumes which includes two award winners:- “The Story of The Rugby World Cup 1995” and “The Story of the World Cup Of Golf”. Dale holds an H Dip(Tax), N Dip (Bus Admin & Psychology), and N Dip (Marketing).
